stage is to plan where you intend to make the wine, if you can designate an area for this it
will make life a lot easier. Successful wine makers often make a space in the loft, or the shed,
what is important is to have a good size working space.
By having a
good size working space it makes much more comfortable to work. Shelves to put your wine on when
you have bottled it. However, as you become more professional you will create a larger area, and
add things like cabinets.

organized is essential, you want to be able to find what you are looking for at a glance, to
avoid frustrations that often creep in.

You will need
to get corks, bottles, and a corker, siphon tubing chemicals, and primary,
and secondary fermentation vessels, in fact
when you buy the wine kit it should tell you all you need to get started.
However, don’t
make the mistake of not studying the instructions, its no good starting out on a day when the
wine shop is closed, only to find you have not got all the equipment you need.
Before you
start crushing grapes, and getting started, make sure every thing is clean, and sanitised, bugs
and good wine just don’t mix. Clean all your work surfaces regularly, and if you use a spoon
always clean and sterilize it after use.

There is quite
a selection to choose from however, a camp- den tablet crushed up in half a gallon of water is
probably the most popular.
To keep wiping
over your work surfaces is essential, this may sound like a lot of work but, believe me in the
long run you won’t regret being fussy in this area. The biggest mistake when folks are learning
how to make grape wine at home, is not taking enough care in this area. The result infected
wine, and a lot of wasted time and effort.
